Tracer diffusion of tritiated water (THO) in ordinary water (H2O) under pressure

Abstract

The tracer diffusion coefficient of THO in H2O has been measured at temperatures between 277 and 318 K for pressures up to about 2.2 kbar. Duplicate results were reproducible to ±0.8 % or better. Up to about 308 K the diffusion coefficients show an initial increase with pressure to a broad maximum. They are discussed with reference to a partial correlation with the anomalous pressure dependence of the shear viscosity of water, a distorted hydrogen-bond model of water and a modified hard sphere theory of transport in fluids.
