Influence of pressure on the ionization of substituted anilinium ions

Abstract

The ionization constants of eight substituted anilinium ions have been measured spectroscopically in water at 25°C and at pressures up to 2000 bar. The degree of dissociation of the ions is reduced by an increase of pressure.

A correlation exists between the volume changes and the entropy changes for ionization of meta and para substituted anilinium ions, phenols and benzoic acids.
