Metal carbonyl chemistry. Part XXI. A comparison of the reactivities of the anions [M(CO)2(PPh3)2](M = Co, Rh, or Ir) towards fluoroaro-matic compounds

Abstract

The preparations are described of the compounds 4-C6F4NM′, 4-CN·C6F4M′[M′= Co(CO)2(PPh3)2 or Ir(CO)2-(PPh3)2],4-EtO2C·C6F4M′, 3,4-(CN)2C6F3M′, 4-(2-CN·C5F3N′)M′, and 5-(2-CN·C5F5N)M′[M′= Ir(CO)2(PPh3)2] by reaction between the corresponding perfluoroaromatic compound and the respective carbonylmetal anion. A comparison of the relative reactivities of the cobalt and iridium anions, and the analogous rhodium anion, towards pentafluoropyridine has established the order [Rh(CO)2(PPh3)2] > [Ir(CO)2(PPh3)2] > [Co(CO)2(PPh3)2]
