Reactions of bis[1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane](η-ethylene)molybdenum(0) with some electrophilic reagents and carbon dioxide

Abstract

The reactions of [Mo(C2H4)(dppe)2][dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane] with CF3CO2H and organic halides RX (R = Ph. X = Cl, Br, and l; R = PhCH2. X = Cl; R = Me, X = l) have been studied. Reaction with CF3CO2H affords two types of complex. [Mo(O2CCF3)2(dppe)2] and [Mo(O2CCF3)(dppe)2]+(isolated as [BPh4] salt); that with RX gives [MoX2(dppe)2]. The complex [Mo(C2H4)(dppe)2] reacts with CO2 giving two types of product depending on the reaction conditions: with light irradiation, a CO2 adduct is obtained, whereas with heat cis-[Mo(CO)2(dppe)2] is the main product.
