Chemistry of the metal carbonyls. Part LXXI. Carbene(tetracarbonyl)-iron and -osmium complexes containing thiazolidinylidene and related ligands

Abstract

Carbene complexes of Fe0 and Os0 have been prepared by treating the appropriate carbonyl anions with 2-chloro-N,4-dirnethyl-1,3-thiazolium, 2-chloro-N-methylpyridinium, and 2-chloro-N-methylbenzo-1,3-thiazolium tetra-fluoroborates. Treatment of [M(CO)4{[graphic omitted]}](M = Fe or Os) with triphenylphosphine affords [M(CO)3(PPh3){[graphic omitted]}]. The osmium complexes [Os(CO)4{[graphic omitted]}] and [Os(CO)4{[graphic omitted]}] on protonation yield cationic species [OsH(CO)4{[graphic omitted]}]+ and [OsH(CO)4{[graphic omitted]}]+, respectively. Analogous methylosmium cationic complexes have been prepared by treating the neutral carbene complexes with trimethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate.
