Aryloxysulphur(IV) fluorides

Abstract

Aryloxysulphur(IV) fluorides result from the interaction between aryl silyl ethers and sulphur tetrafluoride and its derivatives. The derivatives prepared [ArOSF3(Ar = Ph; o-, m-, p- Tol; o-, m-, p- FC6H4; m-, p-ClC6H4), (ArO)2SF2(Ar = Ph; m-, p-Tol; m-, p-FC6H4; m-, p- ClC6H4; p-CF3C6H4; p-O2NC6H4), (ArO)3SF (Ar = Ph or C6F5), (PhO)4S, (C6H4O2)2S, ArOSF2CF3(Ar = Ph or C6F5), ArOSF2C3F7(Ar =p-CF3C6H4 or p-O2NC6H4)] have been examined spectroscopically and in all cases the structures appear to be based on trigonal bipyramidal arrangements about the sulphur with the lone-pair equatorial and fluorines apical.
