Synthesis of η5-cyclopentadienyl- and η8-cyclo-octatetraenyl-titanacarboranes of titanium-(II),-(III) and -(IV)

Abstract

Treatment of the organometallic chlorides LTiClx(L = C5H5, x= 2 or 3; L = C8H8, x= 1) with the sodium salts of carborane dianions, Na2C2BnHn+2, gives the first mixed-ligand titanacarboranes, [C5H5TiC2B10H12][C8H8TiC2BnHn+2], and C8H8TiC2BnHn+2(n= 9 or 10) with formal metal oxidation states of +2, +3, and +4, respectively
