The opening of a C8 ring in a di-ruthenium complex; crystal and molecular structures of [Ru2(CO)5{Me2SiCH2CH2Si(Me2)C8H8}] and [Ru2(SiMe3)(CO)4(C8H8SiMe3)]

Abstract

The binuclear ruthenium complexes [Ru2(SiMe3)(CO)5(C8 H8SiMe3)] and [Ru2(CO)5{Me2SiCH2 CH2Si(Me2)-C8H8}] contain cyclic η7-C8 ligands; the former on thermolysis affords[Ru2(SiMe3)(CO)4(C8H8SiMe3)], shown by X-ray diffraction to contain a ring-opened η8-C8 ligand.
