Biscyclopentadienylvanadium(III) cation: a d2 titanocene-like stable species; generation and reactivity

Abstract

The generation of the [V(cp)2]+ unit (cp =η5-C5H5) in basic solvents such as water, acetone (L), and pyridine (L) leads to the isolation of [V(cp)2L]+[BPh4] paramagnetic complexes, whose high π-basicity toward π-acids is shown by the ready carbonylation of aqueous solutions of [V(cp)2Cl] to give [V(cp)2(CO)2]+ quantitatively.
