A new acetalisation reagent: ethyleneorthocarbonate

Abstract

Diethylene orthocarbonate (3) converts ketones and aldehydes into their corresponding acetals in good yield at room temperature; it is particularly suitable for ortho-hydroxyaromatic aldehydes.
