Controlled radical production and dimerisation induced by cobalt(III)

Abstract

Rapid intramolecular oxidation of the car-banion (NH3)5CoN[triple bond, length half m-dash]C[C with combining macron]HPh generated in [(NH3)5Co-N[triple bond, length half m-dash]C–CH2Ph]3+ yields the nitrile radical which immedi-ately dimerises to stilbene dinitrile.
