A simple reaction-rate method for the determination of biuret
Abstract
The phenol-hypochlorite reaction is employed for the determination of biuret in aqueous solutions. The recommended reaction-rate method is fast, simple, sensitive (0·018 A min–1 per micromole of biuret), accurate (to 2 per cent.) and precise (3 per cent. relative standard deviation). The useful analytical range of concentrations of biuret is 1·6 × 10–5 to 1·3 × 10–3M. The effect of the phenol concentration on the reaction rate has been studied.
The effect of interfering species such as ammonium chloride, urea and cyanurate has also been investigated.
