A study of the rates of hydrolysis of certain enaminones

Abstract

The rates of hydrolysis of fourteen enaminones at 37° over the pH range 2–11, have been determined. In only five cases was a simple acid catalysed mechanism found to operate and for these, second-order rate constants are presented. In the other examples studied, the plots of first-order rate constant vs.[H+] showed either a maxium or minimum value. Mechanistic interpretations for these observations are made.
