Nitroxide radicals. Part XV. p-Methoxy- and p-phenoxy-phenyl t-butyl nitroxides
Abstract
p-Methoxyphenyl t-butyl nitroxides decompose slowly to give 2-methoxy-5-t-butylaminobenzoquinnoes and N-t-butylanisidines by a route involving O-to-ortho-C coupling. p-Phenxyphenyl t-butyl nitroxides are much less stable, readily coupling O to para-C to give, after displacement of a phenoxy radical, p-benzoquinone t-butyl-imine N-oxide and p-phenoxy-N-t-butylanilines.
