Abstract

A new stereospecific synthesis of racemic valencene [4βH,5α-eremophila-1(10),11-diene](1) and nootkatone [4βH,5α-eremophila-1(10),11-dien-2-one](2), starting from 4,4-ethylenedioxy-2-methylcyclohexanone, is described.
