Preparation and infra-red spectrum of [2,3,6,7-2H4] biphenylene

Abstract

The preparation of [2,3,6,7-2H4]biphenylene from the light [1H] compound by exchange with deuterated trifluoroacetic acid is described. Infra-red spectra in solution and as a single crystal, (100) crystal plane, are reported, and the assignment of the infra-red active vibrational modes is discussed in relation to those of the light and fully deuterated analogues.
