Luminescence spectrum of the Cr(CN) 3–6 ion

Abstract

The 2E4A polarized luminescence spectrum of the Cr(CN)3–6 ion in a single crystal of the four layer orthorhombic polytype of K3Co(CN)6 has been measured at 5 K and above. Analysis of the extensive vibrational structure has enabled the low frequency internal modes to be distinguished from the lattice vibrations. The assignments of the vibrational frequencies and the spectral consequencies of chromium to cyanide π-bonding are discussed.
