Vibrational spectrum of the ReH 2–9 ion

Abstract

The Raman spectrum of the nonahydridorhenate(2–)(ReH2–9) ion has been measured both in an oriented single crystal of its potassium salt and in aqueous solution, and published infra-red measurements have been confirmed and extended. The vibrational assignment for this ion is discussed, including the torsional vibrations measured by inelastic neutron scattering, and an approximate force field for the stretching vibrations is investigated, based on a Urey Bradley field with an additional valence interaction constant.
