Fluorescence and absorption spectra of anthracene crystals at 4 K doped with 1- and 2-aminoanthracene: effects of guest orientation

Abstract

Anthracene crystals doped with 2-aminoanthracene give low temperature guest absorption and emission spectra which show the presence of two distinct types of trap, corresponding to different orientations of the guest in the host lattice. 1-Aminoanthracene gives similar results. Steric strain, exciton polarization, exciton-phonon coupling and host-to-guest energy transfer all depend strongly on guest orientation, but in different ways.
