Telomerization of ethylene and aliphatic alcohols induced by γ-rays

Abstract

The radiolysis products of ethylene in methanol, propan-1-ol, propan-2-ol, butan-1-ol, butan-2-ol, 2-methylpropan-2-ol and 2-methylpropan-1-ol have been determined. The present results are in agreement with polymerization studies in so far that the transfer efficiency of the various alcohols varies remarkably. From these results, it is shown that the yield of telomers is proportional to the transfer efficiency of the alcohols.
