Partition studies in heptanol/water/thorium nitrate and hexanol/water/thorium nitrate systems

Abstract

Simultaneous extraction of thorium nitrate and water by heptanol and hexanol is described. Using the Gibbs–Duhem relationship, the activities of alcohols in the ternary systems are calculated for the range 0–2.5 mol dm–3 of aqueous Th(NO3)4. The solubility of water in the alcohols, as a function of water activity, is also determined.
