Organonitrogen groups in metal carbonyl complexes. Part VII. Methyleneamino-derivatives of iron carbonyls

Abstract

(π-C5H5)Fe(CO)N:CBut2, formed in the reactions of (π-C5H5)Fe(CO)2X (X = Cl, Br, I) with But2C:NLi, is the sole derivative of this type isolated, although evidence is presented for the existence of a diphenyl derivative in solution, Fe(CO)4X2(X = I, Br) reacts with R′R″C:NLi (R′= R″= Ph, p-tolyl; R′= Ph, R″= But) to form Fe2(CO)6I(N:CR′R″) and [Fe(CO)3N:CR′R″]2, for which structures with bridging methyleneamino-groups are assigned on the basis of i.r. and Mössbauer spectroscopic data. All complexes are formed in low yield. The novel Fe2(CO)6I(N:CR′R″) complexes are of structural interest since they contain bridging groups of widely differing sizes and bridging characteristics.
