Organonitrogen groups in metal carbonyl complexes. Part VI. Studies on the synthesis of (π-C5H5)Mo(CO)2N:CR2 complexes

Abstract

In the presence of added substrates such as Ph2CO, Me2CO, PhCN, PhNCO, PhNH2, and trans-PhCH[double bond, length half m-dash]CHPh the reaction of Ph2C:NLi with (π-C5H5)M(CO)3Cl (M = Mo, W) yields (π-C5H5)M(CO)2(N:CPh2) in contrast to the reaction without the added substrates which produces (π-C5H5)M(CO)2(Ph2CNCPh2). Studies have been directed towards determining the role of the added substrates, and various types of involvement are discussed and tested. Two forms of the complex (π-C5H5)Mo(CO)2(N:CPh2) are compared, one being assigned a monomeric and the other a dimeric formulation.
