Preparation and properties of difluoro(heptafluoroisopropyl)nitrilosulphur

Abstract

Difluoro(heptafluoroisopropyl)nitrilosulphur, NSF2CF(CF3)2(I), has been prepared by reacting NSF3 with C3F6 in the presence of CsF at 90 °C; further addition of C3F6 gives (CF3)2CFSF[double bond, length half m-dash]NCF(CF3)2. Above 60 °C compound (I) isomerises to F2S[double bond, length half m-dash]NCF(CF3)2. Both cis- and trans-(CF3)2CFSF4N[double bond, length half m-dash]SF2 have been isolated from the reaction between SF4 and (I) in the presence of HF. Spectroscopic data for the new compounds are presented.
