Catalysis of a decarboxylation by a crown ether

Abstract

The decarboxylation of sodium 3-(fluoren-9-ylidene)-2-phenylacrylate in tetrahydrofuran is greatly accelerated ([gt-or-equal] 105) by addition of dibenzo-18-crown-6-ether and is very sensitive to the solvent, pointing to an important role for ion-pairing and H-bonding.
