Method for annelation of pyridinium rings on to nitrogen heterocycles

Abstract

Protonated heterocycles possessing an alkyl substituent on the carbon atom adjacent to the positive nitrogen react with methyl vinyl ketone to form adducts which can be converted into fused pyridinium salts.
