Mercury-199 chemical shift anisotropy in methyl mercuric bromide

Abstract

The magnetic shielding anisotropy σ–σ of 199Hg in methyl mercuric bromide dissolved in the nematic phase of 4,4′-dihexyloxyazoxybenzene has been determined by nuclear magnetic double resonance, and has a value of 5345 ± 25 p.p.m., an order of magnitude larger than values so far observed for other nuclei in nematic phase n.m.r. investigations.
