An e.s.c.a. study of the dissociative and associative chemisorption of halogeno-alkenes and -alkynes on a Pt(100) surface

Abstract

Quantitative u.h.v.–e.s.c.a. studies of the chemisorption of F3C-C[triple bond, length half m-dash]CH, H2C[double bond, length half m-dash]CHF, H2C[double bond, length half m-dash]CF2, cis-FHC[double bond, length half m-dash]CHF, and F2C[double bond, length half m-dash]CFCl on a clean Pt(100) surface show that the initial sorption of vinyl fluoride and 1,1-difluoroethylene is dissociative, the chemisorption of trifluoropropyne, cis-1,2-difluoroethylene, and trifluorochloroethylene being associative; a mechanism for the dissociation reaction is suggested.
