Crystal and molecular structure of mesembranol

Abstract

Single-crystal X-ray analysis has established the conformation of mesembranol (III). Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21, with Z= 2 in a cell of dimensions a= 13·45, b= 7·84, c= 7·68 Å, β= 104·6°. The structure was solved from photographic data by direct phase-determining methods, and the molecular parameters refined by full-matrix least-squares calculations to R 0·082 over 1598 independent reflections.
