Organometallic derivatives. Part VI. Synthesis and reactivity of some (ferrocenylmethyl)phosphines

Abstract

(Ferrocenylmethyl)phosphines have been prepared by the reactions of phenylphosphine. diphenylphosphine, and diphenylphosphine oxide with dimethylaminomethylferrocene methiodide. A series of α-substituted ferrocenyl-methyl alcohols have been treated with phenylphosphine and diphenylphosphine. In these reactions the phosphine behaves both as a nucleophile. displacing the hydroxy-group to give a (ferrocenylmethyl)phosphine, and as a reducing agent, giving the corresponding ferrocenylalkane.
