Anisotropic pseudo-potential for a vanadyl chelate dissolved in a nematic mesophase

Abstract

This paper reports a theoretical analysis of the temperature dependence of the orientational order for several vanadyl chelates dissolved in the nematic mesophase of 4,4′-dimethoxyazoxybenzene. The study confirms that these spin probes do not possess the cylindrical symmetry, in their interactions with other molecules, which is invariably assumed for them. Unfortunately it was not possible to determine the deviation from cylindrical symmetry from this analysis.
