Infra-red cryogenic studies. Part 12.—Alkenes in argon matrices

Abstract

Infra-red spectra are reported of the C2 to C4 alkenes isolated in argon matrices at 20 K. Absorptions due to both conformers of but-1-ene were observed, and a complete assignment is given. The relative intensities in the matrix are in agreement with the small energy difference reported from microwave spectroscopy. An assignment of the fundamental modes is presented for each alkene.
