General model for the adsorption of gases on solids

Abstract

A three parameter model is proposed to describe adsorption of gases on solid surfaces. The model adequately describes data which follow a Langmuir isotherm and data which follow a Dubinin isotherm. Our model is based on the assumption that the surface site energies follow a frozen Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. All the parameters calculated appear to have definite physical significance and an attempt is made at attaching physical meaning to their observed modes of behaviour.
