1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of cis-dimethylbis(trimethylphosphine)platinum and some related systems

Abstract

The 1H n.m.r. spectrum of the platinum-bonded methyl groups of cis-PtMe2(PMe3)2 is shown not to be of the [AX3]2 spin type but to be [AR3X9]2 and the complete proton spectrum is analysed on this basis. 31P Parameters are also given. The spectra of cis-PtMe2L2(L = PPh3 and PMe2Ph) are also considered and it is suggested that all the phenyl protons must be included in the analysis. The lack of resolved features, other than the strong doublet, in the spectrum of cis-PtCl2(PMe2Ph)2 is put down to the same cause.
