Trimethylsilylmethyl derivatives of mercury

Abstract

Bis(trimethylsilylmethyl)mercury is only slowly decomposed at 200 °C whereas photolysis causes extensive decomposition. The vibrational and 1H n.m.r. spectra of Me3SiCH2HgX (X = Me3SiCH2, Cl, Br, or I) are reported and discussed together with the mass spectrum of (Me3SiCH2)2Hg.
