Transition metal derivatives of aryl diazonium ions. Part II. Arylazo derivatives of substituted iron carbonyls

Abstract

Diazonium salts react with phosphine-substituted iron carbonyls, L2Fe(CO)3, to give stable orange arylazo derivatives of formula {ArN2Fe(CO)2L2}+BF4. I.r., electronic, n.m.r. (1H, 19F, and 31P), and Mössbauer spectroscopic data have been recorded for selected complexes. The π-acceptor character of the ArN2 ligand is discussed in the context of preliminary results of a structural determination.
