Reaction of low-valent metal complexes with fluorocarbons. Part XXVII. Zerovalent nickel, palladium, and platinum, and iridium(I), palladium(II), and platinum(II) complexes with bis(trifluoromethyl)diazomethane

Abstract

Reaction of [Pt(stilbene)(PPh3)2], [Pt(PEt3)3], [Pd(t-BuNC)2], [Pd(C6H11NC)2], [Ni(t-BuNC)4] and [Ni(PMePh2)4] with (CF3)2CN2 affords the perfluoroacetone azine complexes [[graphic omitted]·N[double bond, length half m-dash]C(CF3)2L2]. The complexes [M(PhCN)2Cl2](M = Pd or Pt) undergo insertion reactions into the M–Cl bond with (CF3)2CN2, whereas, trans-[IrCl(N2)(PPh3)2] gives the adduct, [[graphic omitted](CF3)2(PPh3)2]. Minor products in the reaction of Pt0 complexes with (CF3)2CN2 include [[graphic omitted]F2(PPh3)2] and cis- and trans-[PtF{CH(CF3)2}(PPh3)2].
