Electron spin resonance studies of γ-irradiated hexacyanoruthenate(II) ions in various host lattices

Abstract

E.s.r. data for γ-irradiated hexacyanoruthenate(II) ions doped into various host lattices are reported. The main complexes formed are RuI species (low-spin d7), assigned as Ru(CN)4(CN′)H2O4– Ru(CN)4(CN′)25–, Ru(CN)4(CN′)Hal5–, and Ru(CN)4(Hal)25–, where CN′ indicates a cyanide ligand tilted off the z-axis. The magnitudes of the hyperfine coupling to ruthenium and nitrogen are used to discuss the structures of the complexes.
