Interaction of hydridocarbonyltris(triphenylphosphine) complexes of iridium(I) and rhodium(I) with organic acids

Abstract

The interaction of the complexes MH(CO)(PPh3)3[M = Rh or Ir] with organic acids such as p-nitrophenol, pyridine-2-thiol, trifluoroacetic, and trifluoromethylsulphonic acids have been studied. The new complexes Ir(OC6H4NO2)(CO)(PPh3)2, Ir(CF3CO2)(CO)(PPh3)2, [IrH2(CO)(PPh3)3)]CF3SO3, and IrH(C6H4NS)(PPh3)2 have been prepared; the latter complex has been found to insert ethylene to form the alkyl complex Ir(C2H5)-(C6H4NS)2(PPh3)2. More convenient routes to Rh(CF3CO2)(CO)(PPh3)2, IrH(CF3CO2)2(CO)(PPh3)2, and the cationic complex [Rh(CO)(PPh3)3]+ are given.
