Co-ordination compounds of indium. Part XXI. Some compounds derived from indium(III) acetate, including indium diacetate

Abstract

Electrolysis of indium in acetic acid produces fine metallic crystals, which when set aside are converted into In(OAc)2. This compound has been compared with In(OAc)3, In(HCO2)3, and (Me)2In(OAc), all of which appear to have polymeric carboxylate-bridged lattices. The pyridine adduct of In(OAc)3, and the new compounds (Me4N)3In(OAc)3(ClO4)3 and (Et4N)3In(OAc)6, involve insertion of the appropriate species into the polymeric lattice of In(OAc)3. The structure of In(OAc)2 is believed to be a lattice of In(OAc)3+ InIOAc, similar to the other compounds, but unrelated to the indium ‘dihalides’.
