Insertion of methyl isonitrile into niobium- and tantalum-chlorine bonds

Abstract

Methyl isonitrile inserts into the metal-chlorine bond of niobium and tantalum pentachlorides to give [MCI4{C(CI)[double bond, length as m-dash]NMe}(MeNC)](M = Nb or Ta) and [NbCI3{C(CI)[double bond, length as m-dash]NMe}2(CNMe)]; the complex [NbCI3{C-(CI)[double bond, length as m-dash]NMe}2PPh3] has also been prepared.
