Fluorination with xenon difluoride. Reactions with 1,1-diphenylethylenes

Abstract

Xenon difluoride reacts with 1,1-diphenylethylenes in the presence of hydrogen fluoride or trifluoroacetic acid as catalyst to form the corresponding 1,2-difluoroacetic acid as catalyst to form the corresponding 1,2-difluoro-1,1-diphenylethanes in nearly quantitative yields.
