Nuclear magnetic resonance. Slow rotation of a methyl group

Abstract

The n.m.r. spectrum of the CH3 and CD2H groups in (3) and (4) respectively is temperature-dependent, indicating that the barrier to rotation of the methyl group is 7·2 kcal mol–1 at –131°.
