Evidence is presented which shows that the reaction Co(NH3)5(DMSO)3++ H2O ⇌ Co(NH3)5OH23++ DMSO, over a range of solvents from aqueous to water-poor systems, probably proceeds by the Id mechanism and not the D mechanism.
