A new method for determining signs of Mössbauer quadrupole splittings: relative signs of 119Sn and 57Fe quadrupole splittings in {Fe(SnCl3)[P(OMe)3]5}+BPh4–
Abstract
The observed intensity asymmetries in the 57Fe and 119Sn spectra of {Fe(SnCl3)[P(OMe)3]5}+BPh4– show that the signs of the 119Sn and 57Fe quadrupole splittings are the same; since the sign of (½e2qQ)119Sn is certainly positive, (½e2qQ)57Fe is also positive; the application of this method for determining signs of quadrupole splittings for such nuclei as 197Au, 99Ru, and 193Ir is discussed.
