Rearrangement of zizaene-related sesquiterpenes

Abstract

When set aside in formic acid, zizaene (I) and its presumed precursor (IV), yield a mixture of olefins [(V) and (VII)], epimeric at a centre separated from the olefinic bond by a quaternary centre.
