Trimethylsilylmethylcopper, a stable copper(I) alkyl

Abstract

Interaction of Me3SiCH2Li with CuI gives (Me3SiCH2Cu)na stable, volatile, petroleum-solublecopper-(I) alkyl (tetramer in C6H6, hexamer in n-C6H14), which shows a parent ion in the mass spectrum corresponding to the tetramer (n= 4); decomposition involves free radical pathways.
