Abstract

1,2,3-Trichloro-1,2-dihydronaphthalene has been prepared by the partial dehydrochlorination of naphthalene δ-tetrachloride, and has been characterised spectroscopically and kinetically. Vicinal coupling constants in the ¹H n.m.r. spectra of some 1,2-dihydronaphthalenes are compared with related values for other systems.
