Transmission of polar effects. Part XIV. Ionisation of substituted trans-3-benzoylacrylic acids

Abstract

The pKa values of a series of substituted trans-3-benzoylacrylic acids have been determined in 80%(w/w) 2-methoxyethanol–water. The effect of substitution in the phenyl group has been assessed by means of the Hammett equation. The transmission of polar effects in the systems under study is discussed.
