Some observations on the Wadsworth–Emmons olefination reaction

Abstract

A method is described for the preparation of β-hydroxy-α-phosphonato-esters via the corresponding β-keto-esters. Deprotonation of these alcohols yielded the accepted intermediate in the Wadsworth–Emmons reaction, which generates αβ-unsaturated ester by direct and indirect routes.
